Niger Works Commissioner Leads Statewide Inspection of Ongoing Road Projects
The Niger State Ministry of Works has launched a comprehensive inspection tour of ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the state, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Kabiru Abbas. The purpose of the tour is to evaluate progress, assess the quality of work, and ensure compliance with approved specifications on key projects managed by the Ministry.
The inspection team was accompanied by the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary QS Hassan Baba Estu, members of the Ministry’s management team, senior engineers, and other technical officers. The tour started from the Suleja axis, where the team visited various sites to receive direct briefings from contractors and supervising engineers.
At each location, contractors explained the scope of work, the current progress, and challenges impacting smooth execution. The technical team also discussed engineering details and site-specific issues that need attention to ensure timely completion.
During the tour, Hon. Kabiru Abbas engaged directly with project managers, raising important questions about adherence to contractual terms, project timelines, and quality control. He underscored the Ministry’s zero tolerance for substandard work and delays, emphasizing that all projects must meet engineering standards and provide real value to the people of Niger State.
The Commissioner reiterated that the inspection demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and proper oversight of public infrastructure projects. He stated that regular monitoring would help identify issues early and facilitate timely corrective measures.
Management team members took detailed notes on observations at each site, including technical concerns, environmental considerations, and logistical challenges affecting project delivery. According to the Commissioner, these insights will inform policy decisions and follow-up actions.
The tour reflected a proactive leadership style, with on-the-spot discussions on project implementation, site-level decisions, and plans for upcoming phases. Contractors were reminded to maintain open communication with the Ministry and strictly follow approved work plans.
