2025 BECE Records 75.6% Pass Rate for Five or More Credits in English and Mathematics Amid Enhanced Transparency and Professionalism

By Yahaya Zakka, Minna

In a significant milestone for Junior Secondary School students, the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was successfully conducted from July 21 to 26, 2025, under the leadership of Abdullahi Asab Garba, Director of the Test and Measurement Department.

The examination upheld the highest standards of transparency, credibility, and professionalism.

While releasing the results, Abdullahi Asab Garba stated that the BECE was administered in all public schools and several private institutions across the state, following strict examination guidelines established by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

The examination supervision involved a team of 631 supervisors and 1,250 invigilators drawn from various educational bodies, including the Ministry, the National State Examination Board (NSSEB), the National State Teaching Board (NSSTB), and the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB). Their oversight was crucial in maintaining discipline and preventing malpractice.

A total of 65,678 candidates registered for the examination, with 55,320 actually participating—27,201 males (49.1%) and 28,119 females (50.9%). Notably, 44,588 candidates registered online.

Following the evaluation of scripts, the results revealed an impressive overall pass rate of 75.6%, with 41,846 candidates achieving five or more credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Subject-specific outcomes indicated that 43,426 candidates passed English Language at the credit level or above, accounting for 78.5%, while 45,308 candidates achieved similar results in Mathematics, representing 81.9%.

Abdullahi stated that this presentation of results shows improvement from the previous year’s pass rate of 67.4%, reflecting a significant increase of 8.2%. This progress is attributed to the collective efforts of school administrators, dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and the unwavering backing of the state government.

The 2025 BECE results will be made available on the Ministry’s online portal for easy access by candidates, parents, and schools, further promoting transparency in educational assessment.

He expressed gratitude to students, teachers, and all stakeholders for their contributions to the successful conduct of the examination.

Abdullahi Asab then called for a continued commitment to enhancing educational standards and creating an environment that allows every child to excel in their academic pursuits.
