NIGER TO START BENEFITING WORLD BANK AGILE PROGRAM IN SEPTEMBER

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, (AGILE) has embarked on, on the spot assessment of three secondary schools in Gurara Local Government Area of NigerĀ  State that are benefitting from the interventions.

AGILE is an initiative is a World Bank assisted project of the Federal Ministry Of Education aimed at providingĀ  secondary education opportunities in some selectedĀ  states by tackling the challenges preventing Adolescent girls in Nigeria from accessing and completing secondary education.

The initiative looked at some of the hindrances that could beĀ  socio-cultural, religious, financial and infrastructural deficits.

The Schools visited in the local government were , Government Secondary School Izom, Government Secondary School Sabon Gawu and Day Secondary School Lambata respectively.

The World Bank project targets adolescent girls aged between 10 and 20 years , and wasĀ  recently conceived by Niger State Government under the able leadership of RT. Hon. Umar Muhammad Bago.

The Team which was led by the National Co-ordinator of AGILE Mrs. Amina Haruna Buba were received by the Permanent Secretary Niger State Ministry of Education Dr. Wasa Jonathan K, who conducted them round the three Schools.

Mrs. Amina Buba noted in her address in all the Schools visited that the aim of the visit is to have an on the spot assessment in order to improve secondary education opportunities, with particular emphasis on girls education, especially bringing back to school girls who dropped outĀ  due to financial or other reasons.

She also interacted with the students by giving them room to voice out their needs and challenges which they want AGILE to intervene on as well as sensitizing them on the mandates of the project.

According to the National Cordinator, states like kano, Katsina and Kaduna are already beneficiaries of this gigantic project, adding thatĀ  the project will be fullyĀ  implementedĀ  by September in Niger State.

Meanwhile, the State project implementation Unit has already been constituted by the State Government and since swung into action.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Dr. Wasa Jonathan K , thanked the team for their visit and assured them of the full commitment of the State government because improving education is one of the top priorities of the government under the leadership of RT. Hon. Umar Mohammad Bago.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by the State Co-ordinator AGile, Assistant Coordinator and the Information Officer, Niger State Ministry Of Education.
