Induction: NMCN harps on professionalism, dedication to duty

By Yahaya Isah

The acting Registrar and the CEO, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Mr Ndagi AlHassan, has urged the newly inducted Nurses to ensure professionalism and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

AlHassan gave the advice during the 13th induction ceremony of 178 foreign trained Nurses for November 2024 professional examination for general n Nurses, on Friday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the nurses were trained in various fields of the nursing profession in various countries like Turkey, Philippines, Morocco and India, among other countries.

AlHassan stated that the essence of the event was to admit the inductees into the register of Nursing, which empowered them to go and practice as nurses.

“The whole essence of nursing is to promote health, prevent illness and alleviate suffering or even to help a patient die a peaceful death.

“That’s the essence of nursing and that is what we expect them to go into the field to practice in caring for the patients.

“They should consider the patients as unique individuals, who have their own rights of desire.

“By rendering this service to them, they should ensure whatever they desire are taken into consideration for their wellness,” he said.

Alhassan expressed delight that the profession itself was growing on daily basis from strength to strength, adding that Nigerian nurses were the best sought for world-over in recent times.

“Our curriculum is packaged in such a way that at every level of healthcare, be it at tertiary, secondary or primary level, Nigerian nurses are fully equipped to render the necessary service to patients.

“So, based on this, we encourage them to keep the flags flying, remain upright, be dedicated and committed to the service of their patients,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the registrar, Mrs Stella Godswill, urged the inductees to deploy the highest level of competence and expertise including sound judgment and caring in the training and practice of the profession.

She reminded them that honesty and openness were the operational watchwords of the profession in all its transactions with both internal and external patients.

One of the parents, Alhaji Muhammed Baba-Busu, expressed happiness to have been able to witness his daughter’s induction into the nursing profession.

“We, the family of Baba-busu are very grateful to the almighty God who stood by her and who gave us the wherewithal to ensure that she actualised her dream of becoming a professional nurse.

“We are also grateful to the Federal Government that created the enabling environment that allowed them to study abroad without much hitches.

“You and I know that training children abroad, especially in the medical line is not an easy task to come by, but thank God for the unwavering support from the Federal Government,” he added.

Baba Busu also commended the management of NMCN under the leadership of the Acting Registrar, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan for ensuring a hitch-free induction for the trained Nurses.

One of the inductees, Bilkis Baba-Busu, expressed delight and thanked God almighty, who had been the pillar behind her successful completion of the training as a registered nurse in faraway Morocco.

Baba-Busu promised to bring the experience she garnered to bear in the discharge of her duties as a registered nurse as well as contributing her quota to the development of the nation’s health sector.

She advised her colleagues to keep working hard, vowing that the sky would not only be their limit but their starting point as they progress in their chosen career.(NAN)
