Good Governance: Etsu Nupe Calls for Prayers for Leaders

The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to pray for leaders at all levels to ensure effective governance and promote national development.
Abubakar, also Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, made this appeal on Friday during a visit by Niger State Governor Umaru Bago to his Wadata Palace in Bida for Iftar (breaking of fast).
He advised citizens to seek divine guidance and intervention for leaders in fulfilling their duties, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The traditional ruler emphasized that continuous prayer would enable leaders to make decisions fostering peace, unity, and progress across the state and country.
“Leadership is a sacred responsibility, and the support and prayers of the people are vital for divine guidance in their pursuits,” he stated.
Abubakar highlighted that sincere prayer and commitment to service would better equip leaders to address national challenges, notably in security and socio-economic development.
He also called on residents to intensify prayers for wisdom and strength for the governor to successfully complete ongoing projects.
The monarch reiterated that peace, stability, and security are essential for meaningful development.
He encouraged citizens to remain supportive of government initiatives and uphold peaceful coexistence.
Abubakar praised the state government for strengthening ties with traditional institutions and engaging key stakeholders, viewing the Iftar gathering as a symbol of unity and mutual respect.
Responding, Governor Bago described the event as historic and underscored the importance of sustaining such engagements.
“When the Etsu Nupe speaks, we listen,” he remarked, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that foster peace and development.
He urged residents to uphold law and order and to continue praying for divine intervention in the state’s challenges.
The governor also highlighted ongoing projects, such as the reconstruction of the Jebba–Bida–Lambata Road and the Minna–Bida Road, which are expected to boost economic growth upon completion.
He reaffirmed his commitment to policies aimed at improving living conditions.
The Chief Imam of Bida, Sheikh Adamu Liman-Yakatu, led special prayers for the governor, his family, and enduring peace in Bida and beyond.
The event concluded with the governor’s delegation joining traditional titleholders and dignitaries at the palace for Iftar and prayers for the state’s prosperity.
