Bomb Blast in Niger State Results in Casualties During Routine Patrol
A tragic incident occurred in Niger State when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Maciyan-Kyada village, Babanna ward, Borgu Local Government Area. A captain and two soldiers were killed, while two others sustained serious injuries.
According to a security source, the soldiers were on a routine patrol around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, when their patrol vehicle hit an IED believed to have been planted by terrorists along the road.
The source reported: “The IED explosion involved soldiers. They were on a routine patrol when their patrol van stepped on the IED buried on the road by the terrorists. Three soldiers lost their lives, including a captain, and two others sustained injuries.”
A resident, who confirmed the incident, noted that the event has increased tensions within the community.
Efforts to verify the incident reached CSP Wasiu Abiodun, Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, who said he would call back.
As of this report, neither the Niger State government nor military authorities have issued an official statement.
