ADC Demands Clarity Over Alleged Relocation of Federal Institutions and Worsening Insecurity in Plateau State

Yakubu Busari

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Plateau State Chapter, wishes to express its deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity in Plateau and reports suggesting the possible relocation of key federal institutions from the state.

These developments, if left unaddressed, pose serious implications for the economic and social future of Plateau State.

in a statement issued by Silas Audu Wettok, the State Publicity Secretary

African Democratic Congress (ADC), Plateau State Chapter in Jos

He says ,as the leading opposition political party in Plateau State and one of the parties committed to providing credible leadership in 2027, the ADC calls on the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to provide clear and unambiguous explanations on these issues.

Three years ago, the present administration assured Plateau people that insecurity would be decisively addressed if elected into office. Unfortunately, the security situation has continued to deteriorate in many parts of the state, resulting in the loss of lives and property, discouraging investments, weakening commercial activities, and creating an atmosphere of uncertainty for businesses and residents alike.

The ADC is particularly concerned by reports of a proposed relocation of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, to another state.

These reports follow earlier public concerns regarding the possible relocation of other strategic federal institutions, including the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) headquarters and the proposed University of Accountancy.

If these reports are inaccurate, the Plateau State Government owes the people a clear clarification. If they are true, then the government must explain what concrete efforts have been made to prevent Plateau from losing institutions that contribute significantly to the state’s economy and national relevance.

We are equally disturbed by comments reportedly attributed to the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, suggesting that security concerns around the institution may justify its relocation.

The Kuru community has hosted the prestigious institution for nearly five decades, welcoming participants from across Nigeria and other African countries. Rather than allowing the institution to be moved, every effort should be made by both the Federal and Plateau State Governments to restore confidence in the security of the area and preserve the institution’s historic location.

Furthermore, the previous administration under Governor Simon Bako Lalong initiated the process of establishing a Nigerian Law School campus in Plateau State and constructed facilities in Riyom to support that vision.

We are now hearing reports that the project may be redirected to another North Central state. If this is indeed the case, Plateau people deserve to know why the state appears to be losing yet another strategic federal institution.

The ADC therefore calls on the Plateau State Government to place the interests of Plateau people above partisan politics. Leadership should be measured by the ability to protect lives, attract development, preserve existing institutions, and create an environment where businesses and investors can thrive.

Our party remains committed to offering purposeful leadership that prioritizes security, economic growth, infrastructure, job creation, and the restoration of Plateau State’s position as the Home of Peace and Tourism.

As we continue to engage the people ahead of the 2027 general elections, we assure Plateau citizens that the ADC will continue to speak truth to power, defend the collective interest of the state, and present a credible alternative built on competence, accountability, and responsible governance.

ADC remains the credible political alternative for the people of Plateau State in 2027.
