President Tinubu Orders Dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Federal Property Alienation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) responsible for alienating federal government properties.
In a statement released Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, it was announced that all responsibilities previously handled by the committee will now be overseen by the Honorable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The PIC was established in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to supervise the privatization, sale, and leasing of federal government land assets as part of the monetization policy.
The committee’s membership included the Minister of Housing as Chairperson, along with representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture, and the Nigeria Police Force. Professor P.T. Ahire, then Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, served as the founding Secretary. Members were drawn from both the public and private sectors.
On March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved a Panel of Inquiry tasked with producing a White Paper to guide the implementation of the committee’s recommendations. The panel operated for 21 months before submitting its report.
The government emphasized that the PIC’s activities had extended beyond its original mandate, leading to numerous lawsuits across the nation. As a result, the continued existence of the committee is considered unnecessary.
President Tinubu has therefore ordered the dissolution of the PIC, with the Attorney General of the Federation taking over its responsibilities effective November 5, 2025.
Following this directive, the committee has been officially dissolved. The former Secretary, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, has been instructed to stop acting on behalf of the committee and the federal government on related matters.
