Niger Attacks: Late Emir’s Son Urges Tinubu to Save Borgu Emirate

Amid ongoing security issues in the Borgu and Agwara local government areas of Niger State, the son of the late Emir of Borgu Emirate, Murtala Haliru Dantoro, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in and protect his community by boosting security and setting up a military outpost.
In an interview, he explained that the increasing insecurity and violence in Borgu and Agwara have become overwhelming, spreading fear and hardship among residents.
Hon. Murtala said, “I am deeply troubled by the continuous loss of innocent lives in our communities. Families are being torn apart, livelihoods are destroyed, and our people are gradually losing hope in the ability of leadership to protect them.
“I call upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was honored with a traditional title of Jagaban Borgu by my late father, the Emir of Borgu, and Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, to intervene and provide lasting solutions to this security crisis urgently.
“Our people deserve to live without fear, farm their lands, and sleep peacefully at home. This is not just a local problem; it is a humanitarian emergency that demands immediate and decisive action from the highest levels of government.”
Dantoro, who is also running for the House of Representatives under the ADC party, added: “If our people are continually killed and displaced, who will exercise their democratic rights in the 2027 general elections?
He stressed that democracy thrives where there is security and hope, not where citizens live in constant terror.
He then urged the Federal Government to send enough security personnel, allocate needed resources, and work with local leaders to restore peace in Borgu.
He concluded, “Our people have been patient and strong, but patience without action breeds despair. The time to act is now, before we lose more lives and before our communities completely lose faith in the government’s ability to protect them.”
