Oyo State: Pupils ,Teachers Rescued After 56 Days of Abduction in Oriire Local Government
The pupils and teachers kidnapped by bandits in Oyo State have been freed.
A statement from the Presidency announced that all 39 pupils and 7 teachers abducted from schools in the Ahoro-Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area regained their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
During the rescue operation, security forces apprehended eight kidnappers, who are now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), with some perpetrators being neutralized.
The Presidency confirmed that no prisoner exchanges took place during the rescue. A prominent terrorist leader, whose release had been demanded by the abductors, remains in detention and is currently facing prosecution.
Security agencies are expected to provide a detailed briefing on the operation soon.
One teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was tragically killed earlier during the ordeal.
