Niger SSG Reaffirms Government’s Dedication to the Well-Being of PWDs

The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting inclusion and dignity for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and individuals with special needs, aligned with the New Niger Agenda of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration.
This announcement was made by the Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, during the celebration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities organized by the Empowerment Initiative of Persons with Disability Forum in Minna.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of Political Affairs and Documentation, ESV James Bake, the SSG stated that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is leading an inclusive government where no one is left behind, including persons with special needs.
He emphasized that the government aims to improve the standard of living for the people and added that the current administration’s policy of inclusion prioritizes the well-being of physically challenged individuals, offering not only political appointments but also permanent and pensionable positions to persons with disabilities.
Alhaji Usman explained that these appointments demonstrate the administration’s commitment to inclusion and equity for persons living with disabilities and to making a meaningful impact on their lives.
“Today, we join the global community to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day set aside to promote dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and special needs.
This day reminds us that disability is not inability. Persons with disabilities are talented, resilient, and capable of contributing significantly to our society when supported appropriately and provided with an enabling environment. Inclusion is not an act of charity; it is a matter of justice, equity, and human rights.”
He added, “As we commemorate this year’s Disability Day, I want to assure you that Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago led administration remains committed to prioritizing the needs of all persons with special needs.”
The SSG encouraged People Living With Disabilities to invest in themselves, acquire necessary skills for self-development, embrace new ideas, and adopt technology as vital tools to succeed in today’s world.
Highlights of the event included goodwill messages from representatives of various institutions, senior government officials including the Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, presentations on empowering persons with disabilities, and the awarding of distinctions, among others.
