NSCDC Urges Enhanced Collaboration with Journalists to Safeguard Critical Infrastructure in Niger State
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has called on journalists to intensify public awareness campaigns focused on protecting and maintaining critical infrastructure across the state.
During a courtesy visit to Comrade Abu Nmodu, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council, at the IBB Pen House in Minna, State Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye emphasized the vital role journalists play in national development and highlighted the need for increased partnership between the media and the NSCDC.
Commandant Aniviye expressed concern over recent acts of vandalism, especially targeting fibre optic cables and key facilities operated by network providers, noting that such damages threaten national growth and stability.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to collaborating with the NUJ to prevent the destruction of critical assets and disclosed that the NSCDC information department has been tasked with working closely with the Union to ensure effective publicity of its initiatives.
In response, NUJ Chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu appreciated the visit, stating it would strengthen the existing positive relationship between both organizations.
He underscored the importance of protecting national infrastructure, warning that damages to these facilities adversely affect citizens directly.
Comrade Nmodu urged the NSCDC to consistently provide accurate and timely information to journalists to prevent misinformation and the spread of fake news.
He praised the NSCDC for maintaining high public trust, attributing this to the solid foundation established by its pioneers.
Additionally, he recommended that the Command include the IBB Pen House in its daily surveillance activities due to its strategic significance.
