FG Assures Swift Return of Abducted Children from St. Mary’s School in Niger State

The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured the safe return of children abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri Agwarra, Niger State. Officials confirmed that efforts are actively underway and that the children are in good condition, with assurances that they will be reunited with their families soon.
During a visit to St. Michael’s Catholic Cathedral in Kontagora, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu conveyed the President’s message of hope and reassurance to the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, as well as the children’s parents.
Ribadu emphasized that security measures have been heightened and called for national unity in confronting the threat that has caused instability.
Expressing President Tinubu’s sentiments, Ribadu stated, “This is a solemn and challenging time for us. It is our duty to protect our citizens. The President is deeply concerned and has suspended travel plans to focus on addressing this crisis.”
He assured the public that efforts would continue and called for unity, stating, “We are all under attack, and we must work together to prevent divisiveness and evil from prevailing.”
Accompanying Ribadu were the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bernard Doro; DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi; and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Northern Nigeria Chairman Rev. Joseph Hayab. Notably, there was no representation from the state government during the visit.
Ribadu also praised Bishop Yohanna for his resilience amidst frustrations over the kidnapping, affirming, “Many supportive nations, including the United States, France, and the UK, are backing us.” He added, “The children are safe and will be returned. God is with them and us. Evil will not triumph.”
He expressed appreciation for Bishop Yohanna’s patience and cooperation, stating, “We are united. The school will remain open and security will be maintained in the area.”
Earlier, Bishop Yohanna thanked President Tinubu and the NSA for their support and hope. The two officials then held a private meeting that lasted approximately 30 minutes, followed by reports from school Principal Rev. Sister Felicia Gyang and a parent representative, Mr. Luka Iliya, sharing their perspectives and current sentiments.
