IBBUL Advocates for Scientific Innovation at FONSAC 2025 Conference in Lapai

The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL) held its 4th Faculty of Natural Sciences Annual Conference (FONSAC 2025) on Tuesday, drawing attention to the indispensable role of science, technology, and innovation in fostering national development.

The conference was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Muhammad Salihu Niworo. He emphasized that advancing scientific research is crucial for Nigeria’s progress.

Themed “Advancing Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” the conference aligns with the nation’s objective of embracing technology-driven growth.

Prof. Sulaiman acknowledged the ongoing support of Niger State Governor Mr. Mohammed Umar Bago for educational development and urged participants to enhance collaborative research efforts across critical sectors, including energy, agriculture, the environment, health, and digital technology.

He reassured attendees of IBBUL’s commitment to fostering an environment that nourishes innovative research.

Representing the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’adu Ahmed, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Oluwole Morenikeji, noted the Federal Government’s focus on science and technology education as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She announced new academic programs, including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Biotechnology, and Renewable Energy Engineering, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with essential skills for the future.

Prof. Ahmed encouraged universities to commercialize research findings and take advantage of TETFund opportunities to secure patents and effectively scale innovations.

The Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Musa Mohammed, expressed optimism over the increasing interest in the conference, indicating that discussions would yield crucial recommendations for a sustainable future.

The Chairman of the Central Organising Committee for FONSAC 2025 reported a notable increase in submitted abstracts this year, with selected conference papers expected to be published in the Lapai Journal of Applied and Natural Sciences (LAJANS).

In a goodwill message from the Deputy Registrar (Council and Management Affairs) Hajiya Amina Ndayako, the Registrar, Alhaji Idris Sale Kusherki, urged participants to harness scientific knowledge to tackle societal challenges.

She highlighted the 5Cs of Sustainable Development: Cleanliness, Community, Culture, Care, and Corporate Governance, advocating for their integration as a roadmap for effective research and policy interventions.

This conference serves as a vital platform for fostering scientific discourse and innovation as Nigeria aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and beyond..
