Niger State Reappoints Mohammed Madami Etsu as Chairman of NGSIRS Amidst Remarkable Revenue Growth.

In a significant move for the state’s fiscal leadership, Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has reappointed Mohammed Madami Etsu as Chairman of the Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NGSIRS).
This decision comes as a recognition of Etsu’s impressive track record in reforming the state’s tax administration since he first took office in April 2021.
Under Etsu’s guidance, Niger State has witnessed a remarkable 170% increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first financial quarter of 2024. Revenue surged to ₦7.03 billion, a notable jump from the ₦2.60 billion reported during the same period in 2023.
Such a leap underscores the effectiveness of Etsu’s strategic vision and leadership in transforming the state’s revenue generation capacity.
Key initiatives led by Etsu include the harmonization of tax efforts between state and local governments, which targeted the reduction of tax leakages and the digitization of tax systems. Notably, the introduction of user-friendly online payment platforms has significantly improved efficiency and transparency within the tax collection process.
Moreover, the enactment of the 2022 Consolidated Tax Revenue Law has fortified the operational autonomy of NGSIRS, allowing for more efficient processes and setting a bold target of ₦63 billion in IGR by 2025.
Etsu’s comprehensive reforms not only modernized Niger State’s tax structure but also enhanced collaborations with local councils while leveraging advanced technology for optimal revenue generation.
The transformation of the state’s financial landscape under his leadership is evident and has certainly justified his reappointment as Chairman of NGSIRS.
