Niger State Governor Conducts Groundbreaking for the Permanent NYSC Orientation Camp
The Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for phase one of the new permanent camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Farmer Umaru Bago stated that the project demonstrates his administration’s dedication to youth development.
He explained that phase one will cover eight hectares of land, with an additional 20 hectares designated for NYSC farms.
The Farmer Governor assured that funds for the project have been allocated and expressed confidence that Niger State’s NYSC permanent camp will be among the best in the country.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, said the project reflects a joint commitment to youth development, national unity, and future progress.
He added that once completed, the new NYSC camp will improve the comfort, safety, and morale of corps members and serve as a center for youth empowerment and community development.
Brig. Gen. Oluseye Nafiu appreciated the Niger governor for his unwavering support of the NYSC and thanked him for providing resources for the project.
He noted that Niger State is now the fourth state, after Lagos, Adamawa, and Gombe, to establish modern orientation camps for corps members.
Brig. Gen. Nafiu urged the contractor to complete the project on time without compromising quality.
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik SarkinDaji, praised the Farmer Governor for the project and assured him of legislative support to ensure its success.
The contractor, Mr. Stephen Adigun, explained that the camp will accommodate approximately 5,000 corps members and can be expanded.
He added that the camp will feature a residential hostel of 41 blocks, with 20 rooms per block and six beds in each room.
Other facilities include a 3,000-capacity multi-purpose hall, administrative offices, sports and recreational facilities, perimeter fencing, and a clinic, among others.
He pledged to bring expertise and dedication to ensure timely completion of the project.
In their separate remarks, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Dr. Nuhu Ngaski, and the Emir of Agaie, Alh. Yusuf Nuhu, who spoke on behalf of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, expressed appreciation to the governor for the project and assured ongoing support for initiatives that positively impact the community.
