In a vibrant display of unity and sportsmanship, the grand finale of the Wakilin Kwadagon Kasar Nupe Peace and Unity Cup took place in the historic city of Bida, featuring a thrilling match between Bida Football Academy and Samba Boys. Out of 18 participating teams, these two dedicated squads reached the finals, culminating in a dramatic penalty shootout, where Bida Football Academy triumphed with a score of 6-5 after a goalless draw in regular time.
Representing the Niger State Government, Special Adviser on Labour Matters Comrade Aminu Yusuf praised Comrade Idrees AbdulKareem Lafene, recognizing his efforts in organizing tournaments that engage and uplift the youth.
He urged the Niger State Football Association to strengthen partnerships with experienced football veterans to further develop the sport.
Comrade Abdullahi Erena, Vice Chairman of NLC Niger State, echoed the sentiments about football’s crucial role in fostering unity, emphasizing that such initiatives provide youths with purpose and engagement.
Chairman of the Niger State Football Association, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf, acknowledged Comrade Lafene’s significant contributions to local football, noting his sponsorship of multiple peace and unity cups across eight local government areas, with upcoming tournaments like the Taka Lafiyan Bosso Peace and Unity Cup just on the horizon.
In a gesture of recognition, Comrade Ambassador Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene congratulated award recipients for their commitment to community development, including notable figures such as Comrade Aminu Yusuf and Comrade Abdullahi Erena.
He encouraged both champions and runners-up to view football as a professional endeavor, emphasizing the importance of striving for excellence in the sport.
The Bida chapter of the Football Association honored Comrade Lafene with a beautifully crafted medal from Bida Brass, a testament to his dedication and impact in promoting peace and unity through football.
