Governor Umaru Bago Announces Subsidy Initiative to Enhance Electricity Supply in Niger State

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has proposed a subsidy on electricity for residents to improve power supply across the region. This initiative was discussed during a meeting with the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), led by Chief Business Officer Engr. Sam Odekina, at the Government House in Minna.
Governor Bago expressed concern over the frequent power outages affecting residents, particularly during the current hot weather. He emphasized the importance of effective electricity supply for the well-being of the populace and urged AEDC to collaborate closely with the State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. This partnership aims to assess customer consumption patterns to finalize the subsidy plans efficiently.
Engr. Sam Odekina assured the governor of AEDC’s commitment to enhance power supply in Niger State. He attributed the current challenges to increased electricity demand due to the heatwave and noted that the available power supply is insufficient to meet the rising consumption. Odekina also discussed the service-based tariffs regulated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and highlighted the impact of customer non-compliance with bill payments on service delivery.
He expressed optimism that the state government’s subsidy would significantly alleviate the power supply issues, ultimately benefiting the residents of Niger State.
