NIGER GOVERNOR INSPECTS NEW MADALLA MARKET, EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER LEVEL OF WORK
Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed dismay over the slow pace of work at the new lacotion for Madalla market.
Governor Umaru Bago made this known after inspecting the project site in Madalla.
The Governor who observed that the project has taken a long time without significant progress especially the provision of basic services like access roads, car parks, toilets and clinic among others, ordered that the building of shops should stop forthwith until the services are in place.
“Honestly am not impressed, this has been going on for the last five or six years, the supposed access roads and other infrastructure have not been put in place but we have seen a sign of some shops being built.
“So I have ordered that the construction of shops be stopped, let sites and services be provided first before they continue”, he ordered.
He directed the Managing partner of the company handling the project to meet him in Minna with a view to planning how best to bring in some other companies that will synergize with them to ensure the project is completed within one year.
The Governor disclosed that the project is not government funded.
“It doesn’t take rocket science to build a market. Once you provide sites and services while building, it makes it easier for people to come and trade and it’s going to be spontaneous financing not state funds.
He however, reminded the people that the executive order on prohibiting sales of goods and services on Madalla Road subsist and anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.
On his part, the Managing Partner, Dodo Project Consulting Limited, Umar Ibrahim Dodo said the company is willing to collaborate with other companies, adding that the one year time frame is achievable.
He disclosed that lack of access road and political will hindered the completion of the project but that investors are now willing to continue with the project.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago also visited the Emir of Zazzau Suleja, Mallam Muhammadu Awwal Ibrahim to intimate him of his plans and actions on the Madalla market.
He also disclosed his intentions to dualize the Madalla-Suleja road to decongest traffic and will also come up with developmental plans that will make Suleja a centre of attraction in Northern Nigeria.
The Emir of Zazzau Suleja, Awwal Ibrahim pledged continued support to the Governor especially as it affects his policies particularly on the Madalla market and also his policy trusts.
He urged the Governor to impress on the Federal Government to ensure the completion of the Minna-Suleja-Abuja road to ease difficulty of road users.
