Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago of Niger State noted that his administration will hit the ground running by prioritizing security, he urged the traditional institution and Fulani kunto-hore, a pan Fulani organization to help comb the State forest of unwanted elements. He said this will go a long way in curtailing the insecurity challenges in Niger State.
The Governor noted education, science and technology as a cutting edge knowledge towards transforming the State into a digital economy, adding that the teaching of the subjects will start from elementary schools. Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago states that agriculture will play a vital role in providing job to the teaming youth in the State, noting that new technology and innovation will be introduced in the sector.
He mentioned tourism as a revenue driver that will boost the State income, adding that tourist location will be develop and improve upon. The Governor also noted civil service as engine of growth and promised to reinvigorate its working mechanism towards efficient and effective service delivery. Adding that health sector will be enhance through the conversion of Shiroro hotel into IBB University teaching hospital.
Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago, said infrastructure is a catalyst to society building and promised to sustain and expand existing and non existing roads in the State, adding that all highways will be modernize to conform with present reality as the State serve as a transit corridor between the North West, North Central, South West and South East geopolitical zones of Nigeria. He noted water as a basic life of human existence and promised to lead the team of sanitizing water pipes and equipment by demolishing structures that built on water works.
Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago said their is no excuse of non availability of light in the State, adding that the State is the location of four hydro power station in Nigeria. And promised to ensure prompt supplies of electricity in the State. The Governor however, mentioned transportation as basic necessity and medium of bringing people and economy together, noting that his administration will build modern mono or light rail that would connect the State with the Federal Capital Abuja.
The Governor noted the 3arm zone as part of his administration’s judiciary and legislative relationship which he promised to complete. He said revenue drive will be reengineered to achieve optimal funds by expanding tax net and tax payers. Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago states that traditional institution will be fully involve in the governance of the State and assured the State citizens that local government administration will be chair by his Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba.
The Governor added that ward development initiative will be reintroduce as part of his administration accountability and transparency initiative, noting that women and youth would be given special treatment towards eradicating poverty and unemployment in the State. He asserted that vocational training and inclusiveness policy will be use to engage the women and youth in facility management and entrepreneurship development, adding that his administration is an open door policy Government that would seriously attend to the yearning and aspirations of the people.
It should be noted that the Gubernatorial speech is a force of action under the presidential system of government, the speech signify actions that would be taken in 100 days of office. The system allow for check and balances between the executive who made the speech, the legislative who supports and give the speech an appropriation authority and power to spend and judiciary who Judicate the speech impediment.
