Niger Gov sworn in new Gurara LG Boss, advises parties on internal democracy

Niger State Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello has sworn in new Council Chairman of Gurara local government area of the state, Mallam Abdulalim Abubakar Bonus, following the judgement of a high court in the state recently.
Speaking during the swearing in of the new Council Chairman on Monday, the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Alh Ahmed Mohammed Ketso advised political parties in the state to always respect internal democracy of their party so as not to fall victim like the All Progressives Congress (APC) did in the case of the Gurara local government council election issue.
He said he was unfortunate that after winning with a landslide victory, APC had to loose the seat to an opposition party due to internal crisis, urging other political parties in the state to learn from what happened to APC by respecting their party internal democracy.
The Governor disclosed that the delayment in swearing in the new council Chairman was not deliberate but that they had to study the judgement and seek advise from the attorney general of the state so as not to make any mistake in the process.
He added that the media was not fair to the APC led government in the state for saying it was refusing to swear in the Chairman after the court judgement, saying they have been complying with similar directives since 2015 when they came on board because they respect the rule of law.
While congratulating the newly sworn in council Chairman, the Governor urged him to deliver dividend of democracy to the people of Gurara local government area and revive the economic activities which had been crippled by security challenge in the area.
Speaking shortly after the swearing in, the new Council Chairman assured the people of his local government that he will not betray their mandate as he was ready to take the local government to a greater height.
He also solicit for the support and cooperation of the people of the local government for him to be able to move the local government forward.
The oath of office and oath of allegiance was administered to the new council Chairman by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Halima Abdulmalik represented by Justice Mariya Mahmud.
