Niger SUBEB charge schools on useful utilisation of UBEC intervention fund
The Niger state Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has urged Education Secretaries of various local government Secretaries to ensure strict and judicious use of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention fund.
Chairman of NSUBEB, Alhaji Sai’du Ibrahim, said at a One -Day stakeholders sensitisation meeting of the 2021/2022 School Based Management Committee (SBMC) – School Improvement Programme (SIP) Project Implementation.
The objectives of the meeting was to sensitise education secretaries and members of the SBMC on School Improvement Programme (SIP) introduced by UBEC to give financial support to communities towards the development of basic education.
Ibrahim, represented by Malam Salihu Gomna, Director in Charge of Teachers Professional Development NSUBEB, UBEC SIP financial support was for schools to execute physical projects such as repairs and renovation of class rooms and provision of furnitures for conducive learning environment.
“Instead of engaging contractors, UBEC gives this financial support to communities and schools to enable them execute projects that that they need, such as repairs and renovation of class rooms and provision of furnitures.
“You are not to use this money to marry more wives, or divert it for other purposes, but to use it to improve basic education in your various communities.
“You will be guided and monitored by SUBEB, UBEC and LEA to ensure proper utilisation of the funds on the three areas of specification which are execution of special, macro and micro projects,” he said.
Ibrahim, who was represented by Salihu Gomna, Director in Charge of Teacher Professional Development NSUBEB, advised them to be prudent in the execution of the project and ensure they carry members of community along, be transparent, keep records, receipts and have evidence of projects executed.
In her welcome remarks, Hajiya Zarah Ibrahim, Director, Social Mobilisation NSUBEB, urged participants to deliberate extensively on areas that would bring about upliftment and development of basic education.
Also, Hajiya Fatima Kutigi, Chairperson of (ANCOPSS), who spoke on behalf of Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed, Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Niger, advised participants to use the fund to develop basic education especially in areas with dilapidated school structures.
