NECO RELEASES 2022 NOV/DEC EXTERNAL RESULT.

The National Examinations Council NECO, has released its 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) result with 33,914 candidates, representing 57.36 percent having five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi made the disclosure at a press briefing in Minna, the Niger state capital.

The Registrar said the number of candidates booked for various forms of malpractices has risen sharply from 4,454 in 2021 to 11, 419 in 2023. He said the development led to the blacklisting of four supervisors, one each from Rivers and Plateau states and two from Ogun state for aiding and abetting malpractices during the examination.

Prof. Wushishi, while giving breakdown of the result, said 60,133 candidates registered for the examination but only 59, 124 sat for the exam. He further disclosed that 46,825 candidates representing 79.20 got five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

He said the exams body will pioneer the establishment of enabling laws that will ensure candidates who are caught in examination malpractices are prosecuted. He said for now the only punishment for candidate caught for malpractices was withholding or outright cancellation of his or her result.

According to the Registrar, SSCE External exams are designed to cater for candidates seeking to remediate their results to enable them gain admission into tertiary institutions.

Professor Wushishi maintained that the examination body would not have been able to achieve the feat without the support of the stakeholders.
