The Boys Brigade expressed concern regarding the plight of abducted students in Niger , called on both the state and federal governments to expedite efforts to secure their prompt release. From our correspondent. With less than three weeks until this year’s Christmas celebration, the Boys Brigade of Nigeria, Niger State Council, has appealed to the government to accelerate efforts to rescue over 200 students of St. Mary’s Catholic Missionary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, who remain in captivity. Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, President of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria, Niger Council and former Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism in the state, made the appeal in Minna on Saturday during this year’s concert for 150 Trumpeters of the Boys Brigade, themed “Worship the King of Kings,” held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Minna, Niger State. Vatsa stated that the concert was dedicated to singing and praying for the swift and safe return of the students. He emphasized that allowing these children to spend Christmas in captivity would be heartbreaking for their parents, as we all understand the pain of separation. He strongly urged the government to prioritize the rescue and safe return of the children to their families. In discussing the significance of the concert for 150 Trumpeters, Vatsa highlighted its role in fostering moral discipline among youth, who form the core of the Boys Brigade.   He stressed that consistent engagement and positive activities help keep young people away from evil and immoral influences. He further noted that the rise in crime, insurgency, and banditry can often be linked to inadequate moral upbringing. Vatsa described the concert as one of the most significant events on the Boys Brigade calendar, where children honor God through trumpet performances. The theme of this year’s concert was carefully chosen to reflect current national concerns, emphasizing the need to seek divine intervention through praise and worship. The concert for 150 Trumpeters marked the conclusion of the Boys Brigade activities for 2025. All battalions from the 25 local government areas of Niger State participated in the event.
