Two Suspects Detained for Child Trafficking Case; Nine Children Rescued

Police in Madalla Police Division, during a routine patrol along Madalla-Suleja Road, apprehend Dauda Ayuba from Senchi village, Kaffin-Koro area, in Paikoro LGA. He was transporting six female children aged 7 to 13 years suspected trafficking victims in a vehicle.

According to a police bulletin shared with journalists in Minna by SP Wasiu Abiodun, Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, interrogation revealed that Dauda had traveled from Benin, Edo State, to Niger State at the request of a woman named IYEE and two others from Ogbu Market, who are currently at large. All are involved in child trafficking activities. He stated they hired him to procure six female children.

Dauda admitted receiving N194,000 for transportation and logistics, intending to use the children as domestic workers, sales girls, or in other child labor roles for profit.

He deceived the children’s parents by claiming he was enrolling the children in school.

He also disclosed that he was paid N30,000 per victim per month, with N20,000 designated as the children’s monthly salary and N10,000 as his commission.

He is currently in the SCID undergoing further investigation, and the parents of the victims have been contacted.

In a separate operation, police officers from Kpakungu Division arrested Mary Anthony, 37, from Gbeganu area, with three female children suspected of being trafficking victims.

Mary was caught in Gurara area, Minna, with girls aged between 8 and 10 years. During questioning, she claimed the girls were given to her by their parents in Gbachiko village, Kagarko area, Kaduna State, citing previous training she provided to one of the victims’ sisters.

Further investigation revealed she falsely claimed she was taking the girls to an orphanage in Suleja. However, she was found with the children in Gurara, Minna.

She is also in SCID for further investigation, and the three children have been rescued, with their parents contacted.
