NCDC Director congratulates Gov Bago, Nigerlites on 27 years uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria
Former Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Niger State and Executive Director (Finance), North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Prof. Muhammad Bashar Nuhu Tachi, has extended warm felicitations to the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, and the good people of the state on the occasion of Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
In a felicitation message, Prof. Tachi described Democracy Day as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political history, noting that the journey since 1999 reflects the resilience, courage, and collective will of Nigerians to sustain democratic rule despite numerous challenges.
He emphasized that democracy, though not without its imperfections, remains far better than military rule, as it guarantees fundamental human rights, promotes accountability, and provides citizens with the opportunity to actively participate in governance.
According to him, unlike the military government democracy has opened up space for inclusiveness, dialogue, and national development.
Prof. Tachi further stated that over the past 27 years, Nigeria has recorded significant progress in democratic consolidation, institutional growth, infrastructural development, and socio-economic advancement across various sectors.
He noted that successive administrations at both federal and state levels have contributed to strengthening democratic ideals, while also laying foundations for sustainable development and improved service delivery to the people.
The former Commissioner commended Farmer Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for aligning with the principles of democracy through people-oriented policies and inclusive governance, which continue to transform Niger State under the New Niger Agenda.
He also applauded Nigerlites for their unwavering support, patience, and commitment to democratic values, urging them to remain steadfast in upholding peace, unity, and active civic engagement.
Prof. Tachi called on leaders at all levels to deepen democratic practices by ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of the people, stressing that good governance remains the cornerstone of a thriving democracy.
He concluded by reaffirming his optimism in Nigeria’s democratic future, expressing confidence that with collective effort, the nation will continue to grow stronger, more united, and more prosperous in the years ahead.
