Niger State Government to Gazette Zoning System in the State
The Niger State government plans to officially publish the zoning system for elective positions within the state.
Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced this during a strategic meeting with key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all party aspirants, held at the Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Minna.
He explained that this move will ensure power is fairly distributed across all 25 local government areas, fostering lasting peace and political stability.
The farmer governor stated that a public hearing and other essential steps will be undertaken to guarantee the zoning is gazetted before the end of 2027.
He emphasized that no local government will be allowed to hold power for more than eight years.
“We are going to gazette zoning in Niger State. If that’s the only thing we are going to do before 2027. So that power will revolve from local government to local government, from constituency to constituency, so that there will be everlasting peace in Niger State,” he said.
He acknowledged that the Nigerian constitution does not prevent anyone from vying for an elective position regardless of the senatorial district. Still, he highlighted that there is an understanding and zoning in the state that has been functioning effectively.
