Langtang General Hospital  lies abandoned with overgrown grass, equipments edifice wasting away

By Yakubu Busari

The Langtang General Hospital has became home for reptiles and overgrown grass equipments edifice are no longer useful for the people of the lowland .

The General Hospital is one of the famous  standing abandoned with equipment supplied  remained unused, with its premises overgrown by grasses, while the facility itself shows signs of poor and substandard construction .

The multi-million Naira beds capacity Hospital attached with mortuary   has long been abandoned and is currently in a deplorable condition .

Several governments had made effort to revamp back the abandoned  equipment are  remained unused, with its premises overgrown by grasses, while the facility itself shows signs of poor and  neglect .

Our medium reports  recent visit to the facility revealed that urgent intervention to be taking to rescue the hospital from total collapse , it was observed that the ceiling boards of the hospital are already falling off, “a clear indication of neglect .”

The hospital in Langtang North LGA was constructed during the military junta  as part of the Nigerian government ,

“This hospital was intended to serve as a lifeline for thousands of residents, yet today it lies in decay,”it stated by Comr. Timlok Fyenda, Esq., MIASS, PhD (in view)NNPP Senatorial Candidate

Plateau South Senatorial District (2023)

According to the organisation, mothers are forced to give birth in unsafe conditions, while emergency cases are treated on the roadside, with residents of the community left with no option but to travel long distances for healthcare.

“While a well-funded hospital sits idle and rots, the people of Tarok nation and the Neighbouring LGAs continue to suffer,” .

“This is not just about a wasted project; it is about lives lost and opportunities denied because leaders failed to ensure accountability.”

Speaking to One Plateau South Senatorial District candidate for New Nigeria People Party ,(NNPP) decried the fact that a health care facility meant to save lives “has become a symbol of corruption, negligence, and failed governance.”

Fyenda Timloh stressed that, “Public funds were spent, but what the people received is an abandoned, poorly built structure already falling apart before being put to use.”

Demanding immediate action and accountability, Fyenda Timloh called on the Sen.Simon Bako Lalong, Governor Caleb Mutfwang ,and SGS ,Arc Nanchang Samuel Jatau  Administration, and other relevant authorities to take immediate action to redeem the decaying hospital and the Government Senior Secondary School Langtang North LGA Chairman .

“He  called on Senator Lalong and Governor Mutfwang Administration, Nigeria, Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC), in Plateau State and all relevant health authorities to immediately address this disgrace,”.

He  stressed that citizens deserve to know why the hospital is not operational including the abandoned GSS Langtang edifice taking over by overgrown grasses .

It also asked the following questions: Who supervised these hospital and School in Plateau State ? Why was 1971 school suddenly didn’t have Hotel accommodation?  And when will Langtang General Hospital  finally serve the people of ?”

It noted that urgent steps must be taken to clear the hospital premises overgrown by grasses, fix the collapsing ceilings, restore power and water, deploy qualified health care workers, and put the hospital to use.

“Public funds must not be wasted while citizens die due to a lack of healthcare.

The people of Langtang deserve dignity, not abandonment. They deserve a working hospital, not an empty shell of one,” Fyenda maintained.

“This facility must be revived, repaired, and made functional, because healthcare is not a privilege; it is a right.”

According to him,Excellency, Gov. Caleb Mutfwang ,Arch. Nanchang Jatau (SGS)Plateauvstate elders forum and Plateau state Traditional Council

Health is Wealth — A Call for Urgent Action in Plateau State

Health is wealth. But what we are witnessing today in General Hospital Langtang, as well as in Barkin Ladi and Pankshin, is deeply troubling and unacceptable.

I am highly disappointed in the current administration led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. It is alarming that billions of naira can be spent on SUVs for first-class traditional rulers, while our public health and education sectors are neglected.

Our hospitals are suffering from severe staff shortages, lack of basic bedding, and dilapidated infrastructure. These are fundamental necessities, not luxuries. If even a fraction of these resources were invested in healthcare and education, the people themselves would willingly support and campaign for your re-election.

Government is a continuity, and leadership demands responsibility to improve the system, not abandon it.

This situation in Langtang North, Barkin Ladi, and Pankshin should not define your administration. Plateau people deserve better healthcare, better facilities, and better governance.

If others are afraid to speak the truth, I am not.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the time to act is now.
