NCDC Executive Director urges discipline, rewards talent at Kuta matriculation ceremony

The Executive Director, Finance of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Prof. Muhammad Bashar Nuhu Tachi, has charged newly admitted students of the Kuta Study Centre of the Niger State College of Agriculture Mokwa to uphold discipline and remain committed to their academic pursuits.

Prof. Nuhu Tachi gave the charge while speaking as Special Guest at the 11th matriculation ceremony of the study Centre, held in Kuta, Shiroro Local Government Area, emphasizing the importance of hard work, dedication, and strict adherence to academic rules.

He described education as the most reliable pathway to success and social mobility, urging the students to take full advantage of the conducive learning environment and experienced academic personnel available at the centre.

The former Commissioner for Tertiary Education further encouraged the matriculating students to emulate outstanding performers, stressing that excellence is achievable through determination, focus, and consistency.

He also commended the management of the Mokwa campus for its sustained support and commitment to the growth of the Kuta Study Centre, expressing optimism that ongoing efforts to upgrade the main campus into a specialized university of agriculture would soon be realized.

Prof. Nuhu Tachi expressed hope that the Kuta Study Centre would eventually attain full college status when the main campus becomes university, noting that such development would further expand access to agricultural education in the area.

In a demonstration of support for talent development, he announced a cash reward of ₦250,000 each for two students, Khadijah Adamu and Zahira Yunusa, who impressed with poetry presentations, adding that his foundation would sponsor the publication of their creative works.

He also donated ₦100,000 to A’isha Sanusi Aliyu of the Agricultural Technology Department, who emerged as the overall best student across all study centres and the main campus for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Earlier, the Provost of the college, represented by the Director of Continuing Education, Dr. Aminu Garba Abdullahi, assured students of improved facilities, stating that the Kuta Study Centre would receive priority attention in future upgrade plans.

He described the centre as one of the best among those operated by the institution and noted that measures are in place to ensure students enjoy equal academic standards with their counterparts at the main campus.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, Hon. Isiyaku Bawa, represented by the Council Secretary, Dauda Doma Musa, appreciated government support and urged students to remain focused and shun examination malpractice.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the centre, Dr. Muhammad Sani, disclosed that 74 students were matriculated for the session and highlighted challenges such as inadequate seating, while appealing for support.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Sa’adatu Aliyu, on behalf of the matriculating students, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to study within their community and assured that they would remain disciplined and committed to their academic pursuits, while also commending Prof. Nuhu Tachi for facilitating the establishment of the centre and the management for their supportive leadership.

The event also featured the administration of the matriculation oath, cultural and drama performances, poetry presentations, and entertainment.
