Katcha, Gbako Communities Agree on Zoning for 2027 House of Representatives Elections

By Yahaya Zakka, Minna

The Elders Forums of Katcha and Gbako local government areas in Niger State have jointly decided to zone their Federal House of Representatives seat for Bida/Katcha/Gbako to either Katcha or Gbako in the 2027 elections, emphasizing principles of justice, fairness, and inclusion.

Alhaji Abubakar Katcha, Chairman of the Katcha Concerned Stakeholders Forum and the Interface Chairman, announced the decision at the conclusion of the Gbako/Katcha stakeholders interface meeting in Minna.

In a communiqué issued to journalists in Minna immediately after the meeting, the interface committee stated that the next representative for the Bida-Katcha-Gbako federal constituency should be selected from Gbako or Katcha local government areas.

The committee underscored the importance of unity, mutual respect, and harmony among Bida, Gbako, and Katcha, urging a united voice on the issue.

Hon. Mohammed Dangana Kudogi, Chairman of the Katcha Elders Forum, former Katcha local government council Chairman, and an APC stalwart in the area, agreed with the decision, emphasizing that fairness, justice, and equity are essential for peace and stability and should be guaranteed through equal opportunities.

He noted that among the three local council areas in the federal constituency, only Katcha has yet to hold a position of influence.

According to him, Bida now holds gubernatorial and House of Representatives seats, while Gbako has ministerial and senatorial roles.

He stressed that this situation highlights the need for Katcha to produce the next House of Representatives candidate to preserve the zoning balance.
