Governor Bago Calls for Review of Zoning Formula in Niger’s 2027 Elections
Niger State Governor and Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has appealed for a review of the zoning arrangement across the state’s three senatorial districts after the 2027 general elections.
He expressed this view during a meeting with representatives from Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa local government areas, held at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja under the banner of the “Suleja Emirate First Agenda.”
Governor Bago emphasized that revising the zoning framework is crucial to ensure fairness and inclusivity. However, he noted that such a review cannot be completed before the upcoming elections. Despite this, key stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress will discuss the matter to facilitate future adjustments.
He urged patience and understanding from the public and called on elected officials to improve democratic benefits for citizens.
Yakubu Mohammed Katamba, convener of the “Suleja Emirate First Agenda,” stated that the movement includes 67 groups from Suleja, Tafa, and Gurara advocating for rotational representation within the zone.
He thanked Governor Bago for his leadership and openness to their concerns and expressed confidence that they would be properly considered.
