Boko Haram Overruns Military Base, Killing Commanding Officer in Borno

Boko Haram terrorists have overrun a military camp in Borno State, resulting in the death of the commanding officer and other personnel.

The attack occurred in Kukawa Local Government Area early Monday morning. A local source reported that insurgents struck the base around 12:30am., attacking from multiple directions.

Another security official indicated that the terrorists dislodged soldiers from the base, set vehicles ablaze, and stole ammunition. 

It is unclear how many casualties occurred, but the loss of the commanding officer was confirmed. 

Last month, a similar attack was repelled by the military, with troops successfully killing many insurgents. That defensive success was widely praised, earning accolades for the commanding officer and celebrating the troops, especially on social media.

Kukawa’s lawmaker, Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, expressed regret over the latest incident, noting the base was overrun this time. 

The attack follows a previous assault on a military base and IDP camp in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA, which resulted in casualties among soldiers and civilians.
