Resignation of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun Sparks Speculation – Presidency Reacts.
The Presidency has officially confirmed the resignation of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the official statement, the former police chief resigned due to “family issues which require his undivided attention.”
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision through a letter submitted on Tuesday.
However, insiders suggest a different story.
Sources within the Villa indicated that Egbetokun was actually asked to resign during a Monday evening meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
“It was in that meeting he was asked to go,” a top official anonymous source revealed.
Observers noted that the IGP arrived at the Presidential Villa around 6:40 pm in his official vehicle, without his cap, for what was described as an urgent summons.
“He was called in. It wasn’t a routine visit,” one source clarified.
