Federal Lawmaker Alleges Coordinated Campaign to Damage His Political Reputation

Yakubu Busari

The Member representing Langtang North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Prince Vincent Venman Bulus, has alleged that certain individuals are reviving an old court matter in an attempt to damage his political reputation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent, Bulus described recent social media reports linking him to a pending court case involving the Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria (MFAN) as misleading and politically motivated.

According to the federal lawmaker, the matter dates back to 2022 when he served as the Executive Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Council. He maintained that at no time did members of the farmers’ association personally approach him to request land for farming, contrary to reports circulating on social media.

Bulus explained that, as the Chief Executive and Chief Security Officer of the Local Government, his office received several reports alleging that a farmers’ association had defrauded more than 10,000 farmers in Langtang South and disappeared. He said that after receiving information that another group had commenced farming activities on land belonging to the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture along the Sabon Gida–Mile Four Road, he considered it necessary to alert the police for investigation rather than take the law into his own hands.

He argued that referring the matter to law enforcement was a lawful exercise of his executive responsibilities aimed at protecting residents and ensuring that any allegations of fraud were properly investigated.

Bulus further expressed concern that the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture allegedly failed to act when reports of the earlier alleged fraud emerged, but only became active after the Local Government Council involved the police. He insisted that the decision to invite security agencies should not be misconstrued as a criminal act on his part.

The lawmaker also questioned why a legal action instituted against the office of the Executive Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Council is now being portrayed in public discourse as a personal case against him. He maintained that actions taken in his official capacity as Executive Chairman were undertaken on behalf of the Local Government Council and within the scope of his constitutional responsibilities.

Bulus called on the public to disregard what he described as deliberate attempts to misrepresent the facts surrounding the matter, expressing confidence that the court process would establish the true position of events.
