University of Abuja Expels 28 Students,Revokes Certificates for 15 Due to Disciplinary Violations
The University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, has taken disciplinary measures against several students. A total of 28 students have been expelled, and certificates have been revoked from 15 former students over various misconduct allegations.
According to a statement from Dr. Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of the University’s Information Directorate, these decisions were made during the 191st Regular Meeting of the Senate.
The meeting reviewed reports and recommendations from the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
The students involved committed offenses such as threats to life and assault, examination malpractice, conspiracy, burglary, theft, cult-related activities, possession and use of hard drugs, falsification of ‘O’ Level results, and failure to attend disciplinary hearings despite multiple invitations.
Additionally, the Senate approved the revocation of certificates for fifteen former students who did not respond to invitations from the Committee. Twelve students were cleared after investigations, while thirty-three others received warnings for infractions including conspiracy, hostel racketeering, and fighting.
Vice-Chancellor and Senate Chairman Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi reiterated the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, highlighting ongoing enforcement of discipline and rules.
