Gov. Bago Hosts End-of-Year Dinner for Media Professionals, Announces New Media-Government Partnership

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, a committed farmer, hosted an end-of-the-year dinner with officials from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council, media executives, and practicing journalists across the state.
The event was held at the Hauwa Wali Multi-purpose Hall within the Government House in Minna, where attendees enjoyed a formal meal.
In his address, Governor Bago emphasized that the gathering aimed to recognize and appreciate the consistent support of journalists towards his administration and their critical role in the development of the state.
He noted that this occasion marks the beginning of a new phase to enhance the already positive relationship between the state government and media professionals.
The governor also introduced Mr. Obed Nuhu Nana, the new Commissioner of Information and Orientation, urging him to institutionalize such events for regular engagement.
“Our goal is to foster a stronger relationship, particularly with journalists in Niger State,” Bago stated. He also unveiled the Niger State Service Directory, covering two years of service, encouraging journalists to utilize it as a resource for investigative journalism.
Mr. Nana expressed his gratitude for the appointment and pledged to strengthen cooperation between the government and media practitioners.
Comrade Abu Nmodu, Chairman of the NUJ Niger State Council, described the event as a significant step, emphasizing a transparent partnership with the governor. He announced plans for a forthcoming media summit once logistical arrangements are finalized.
Nmodu praised Governor Bago, stating, “This marks the beginning of greater collaboration in media and governance, paving the way for progress aligned with Niger State’s development goals.”
Earlier, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the Government of Niger State, remarked that the dinner was an important opportunity to reinforce bonds with the press and foster unity.
A supplementary prayer was held for peace and prosperity in Niger State and Nigeria, as well as for the safe return of the remaining kidnapped Papiri schoolchildren.
