Governor Bago Advocates for Patriotism and Responsible Social Media use Among Nigerian Students.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has urged the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Oladoja, to foster a sense of patriotism among Nigerian students.
During a meeting at the Government House in Minna with NANS leadership, the governor stressed the significance of protecting Nigeria’s integrity, emphasizing that the youth bear a primary responsibility in this effort.
Governor Bago expressed concern over the rising trend of social media misuse among youths to disseminate negative messages. He emphasized, “One of your key responsibilities is to continually reorient students to use social media to foster patriotism and love for Nigeria.”
He commended the current administration’s initiatives to develop future leaders and urged students to embody patriotism through their actions, adding, “We are not asking for too much.”
The governor also encouraged NANS to participate in food security and sovereignty initiatives by establishing student farms. He pledged his continued support to enhance the success of Nigerian students.
Comrade Olushola Oladoja assured NANS’ commitment to promoting dialogue over confrontation. He highlighted ongoing campus sensitization campaigns aimed at encouraging effective communication and issue resolution.
He also praised President Tinubu’s administration for programs such as zero-interest student loans to reduce school dropout rates caused by financial hardship.
Furthermore, Oladoja expressed appreciation to Governor Bago for approving billions of naira for scholarships, appointing numerous youths to leadership roles, and overseeing infrastructural improvements across Niger State.
