N-HYPPADEC Distributes 850 Power Tillers and Relief Materials in Niger State to Boost Agriculture and Safety.

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has launched a significant initiative by distributing 850 units of 13-horsepower hand-driven power tillers, along with essential relief materials and life jackets, across its member states.
The distribution ceremony was flagged off by Niger State’s Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the N-HYPPADEC Headquarters in Minna.
Governor Bago praised the Commission and its Managing Director for their unwavering commitment to the development of the N-HYPPADEC states, highlighting that these efforts contributed to his reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He expressed optimism about the role these resources would play in supporting local farmers amidst the challenges posed by recent flood disasters.
Encouraging farmers to engage in dry season farming using the lower Niger Basin, Bago emphasized the importance of pasture production in line with national agricultural initiatives.
He also announced plans to provide 160 water pumps to enhance agricultural activities and expressed a willingness to partner with N-HYPPADEC for future agricultural ventures.
Addressing the recurrent boat mishaps in Niger State, Bago stressed the need for public education on safety measures and announced discussions with local leaders to enforce life jacket usage.
In his remarks, N-HYPPADEC Managing Director Alh. Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa revealed that Niger State received 165 units of the power tillers, along with thousands of life jackets, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides aimed at flood-affected communities.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving livelihoods, reducing vulnerability, and promoting inclusive development, which aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and traditional rulers commended N-HYPPADEC’s efforts, noting their alignment with the state’s agricultural productivity and safety goals.
The initiative aims to enhance food security and support smallholder farmers, paving the way for a more resilient agricultural sector in Niger State.
