Nigerian Government Announces Public Holiday for Independence Day.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to celebrate the nation’s 65th Independence Day. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press briefing in Abuja.
As Nigeria gears up for this important milestone, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt greetings to Nigerians both domestically and abroad, emphasizing the importance of this day in reflecting on the nation’s journey since gaining independence in 1960.
In his address, the minister urged citizens to uphold the values of unity, peace, and resilience—qualities he credited with sustaining the nation through its challenges and achievements.
He emphasized the need for collective commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which aims at fostering national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
Minister Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, highlighting that with unified efforts, the country can continue to make strides toward stability and development.
