Advances Legislation to Enhance Governance and Development.

Niger State House of Assembly has successfully passed several impactful bills and adopted vital committee reports, showcasing its dedication to effective governance and the welfare of its citizens.
Notable among the achievements is the passage of the Niger State Diaspora Agency Bill, which aims to foster engagement with the state’s diaspora community.
During the plenary, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, Chair of the House Standing Committee on Women Affairs, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, presented the committee’s report, leading to the bill’s adoption. This initiative is expected to promote strategic investments and cultural exchange, ultimately boosting economic growth in the region.
Additionally, the House adopted key recommendations from the Standing Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Primary Health Care, led by Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasir (Paikoro).
The recommendations focus on offering better incentives for medical personnel, ensuring automatic employment for health interns, and exploring alternative energy sources for healthcare facilities, all aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery in the state.
In a move to strengthen the education sector, lawmakers approved the Bill on the Retirement Age of Academic Staff, which extends the retirement age from 65 to 70 years and for professorial cadre staff from 70 to 75 years.
This decision, advocated by Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris (Tafa), aligns with national standards and aims to retain experienced educators while improving educational quality.
The Assembly has also expressed its commitment to public safety, as it summoned the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works regarding their delays in implementing road safety measures. This call to action reflects the House’s focus on infrastructure improvement and citizen safety.
Furthermore, the House commenced the second reading of the Hisbah Board Bill and the Scavengers Regulation Bill, both proposed to enhance governance and regulation within the state.
Acknowledging the diligent efforts of the House Standing Committees, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to-forward clean copies of the approved legislation to the Executive for assent.
