Baddegi Radio Suspension: Information Minister Urges Calm
The Ministry of Information and National Orientation has acknowledged the concerns expressed by various stakeholders in the media industry regarding the recent directive from the Niger State Government to suspend the operations of Badegi FM, a radio station located in Minna.
Reports indicate that the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, issued this directive during an expanded APC caucus meeting on August 1, which was also attended by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation.
The Governor cited allegations of unethical broadcasting and incitement against the government as reasons for the suspension.
In a press statement by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the Ministry highlighted that the suspension of broadcasting licenses is under the jurisdiction of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), as mandated by law. Consequently, the Ministry supports the decision of the Niger State Government to formally report the alleged “unethical behavior” of Badegi FM to the NBC for resolution.
The Minister urges all parties to remain calm, reassuring them that the NBC has the necessary mechanisms to address the issue in a fair and impartial manner.
