Niger State Government Identifies ACReSAL as Key Development Partner in Addressing Environmental Challenges
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru has recognized Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) as a crucial partner in tackling the environmental challenges faced by the state.
Governor Umaru made this statement during a visit from the Implementation Support Mission team for ACReSAL at his official residence in Government House, Minna.
The Governor, also known as the “farmer Governor,” praised ACReSAL as an outstanding initiative from the World Bank, highlighting the significant assistance the program has provided to the state.
He called for stronger collaboration to overcome additional challenges, particularly in water treatment and transportation.
Umaru expressed gratitude to the team for their sympathetic visit and informed them that the state government is working with the National Bureau of Statistics to determine the number of individuals who lost their lives in the recent flood disaster in Mokwa. He emphasized the ongoing advocacy efforts to relocate people from flood-prone areas.
Additionally, Governor Umaru reiterated the state government’s plans to involve residents in farming initiatives aimed at lifting people out of poverty.
The task team leader of the Implementation Support Mission, Dr. Joy Agene, stated that the purpose of the visit was to express condolences over the unfortunate flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area and to inform the Governor about the team’s mission to assess ACReSAL projects in the state.
She described Niger State as a formidable partner that has demonstrated a commitment to addressing environmental challenges and other related issues that impact human lives.
