Government College Bida to Benefit from AGILE Multi-Million Naira Rehabilitation Programme
The Niger State Government has announced that Government College Bida will benefit from the multi-million naira school rehabilitation intervention under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Asabe Mohammed, disclosed this when members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Bida Old Students Association (BOSA) paid her a courtesy visit in Minna.
Dr. Mohammed said the school was included in the AGILE intervention programme because of the government’s determination to develop Government College Bida into a model unity school.
She noted that the state government has significantly improved students’ welfare through the provision of balanced and nutritious meals, aimed at creating a conducive learning environment.
The Commissioner commended BOSA for its various interventions in the school, stressing that the government appreciates individuals and organizations that complement its efforts to reposition the education sector.
She further revealed that the state government is currently assessing schools damaged by the recent windstorm across the state with a view to carrying out necessary repairs.
Dr. Mohammed also disclosed that the Ministry has recommended the recruitment of 5,000 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
She added that the Niger State Government will soon adopt the Teacher Career Path Policy to provide a structured framework for the recruitment, deployment, retention and promotion of teachers in the state’s primary and secondary schools.
Earlier, the National President of BOSA, retired Major General Abdulmalik Halidu Giwa, appealed to the state government to give priority attention to the development of Government College Bida in order to preserve its status as a unity school.
Represented by the National Vice President of the association, Alhaji Muhammadu Agwai, the BOSA President requested the rehabilitation of hostels, classrooms, staff quarters and sporting facilities within the college.
Major General Halidu Giwa, who holds the traditional title of Taimakon Nupe, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts at improving teaching and learning at Government College Bida.
