President Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso has narrowly escaped yet another assassination attempt, according to sources close to the government.
The incident, which reportedly occurred late Thursday evening, adds to a series of challenges faced by Traore since he assumed power.
Traore, a military officer who gained prominence after leading a coup in September 2022, was targeted by unidentified assailants during a routine movement in the capital.
Security forces quickly intervened, thwarting the attack and ensuring Traore’s safety. No official statement has been released by the presidential office at this time, although an investigation is said to be underway.
