Donald Trump Releases AI Image of Himself as the New Pope

A mild stir has erupted on social media after US President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope.
Trump posted the image on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday morning. The picture quickly garnered thousands of reactions and was subsequently reposted by the White House’s X account.
It is worth noting that Pope Francis, whose real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, passed away on April 21, 2025, following a prolonged illness. The conclave to elect a new Pope is set to begin on May 7. Only cardinals under the age of 80 are eligible to vote, and 135 electors are expected to participate from a pool of over 252 cardinals.
Last week, Trump jokingly told a group of reporters that he would like to become the head of the Catholic Church. “I would like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice,” he stated.
When pressed further, he mentioned that he had “no preference” but suggested that an American cardinal from New York could be a strong contender for the position.
