Niger State Governor Launches Ward Development Committee with N9 Billion Initiative.

In a significant move to enhance rural development and improve the livelihoods of communities in Niger State, Governor Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has inaugurated the State Ward Development Committee. This initiative aims to provide essential amenities and bolster economic growth across the state.
As announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Binta Mamman, a total of N9 billion has been allocated for the initiative, ensuring that each of the 274 wards in the 25 local government areas receives N3 million monthly for the next ten months.
This funding is intended to support various development projects and create employment opportunities, particularly for local artisans.
The committee will play a pivotal role in addressing basic infrastructure needs through collaborations with the Ministries of Works, Primary Health Care, Education, and Water Resources, as well as relevant agencies like RUWATSAN.
This initiative marks the revival of a project that had been stalled for a decade, initially introduced during former Governor Babangida Aliyu’s administration.
The Governor has also instructed the steering committee to establish local government and ward committees to ensure effective implementation.
Responding to the launch, Chairman Phalal Bako Mohammed expressed gratitude for the Governor’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing the committee’s focus on community sensitization and awareness initiatives.
The committee comprises notable members, including Hon. Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo as Vice Chairman and representatives from various sectors including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and local government associations. Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Bello will serve as Member/Secretary, leading efforts to execute this ambitious development plan.
