The Chigaban Matan Arewa Vendors (C-MAV) Niger State branch, dedicated to empowering women for inclusive growth, organized a seminar to honor the legacy of the late Hajiya Maryam Babangida, the founder of the ‘Better Life for Rural Women’ initiative.

The event called on women to engage productively in business ventures.

The seminar took place at the Guildel Hotel in Minna, where dignitaries shared goodwill messages.

In her welcome address, C-MAV Chairperson Hajiya Jamilatu Isah stated that the gathering was not only a celebration of their achievements but also a tribute to the inspiring figure of the late former first lady, Hajiya Maryam Babangida. Her legacy of empowering vulnerable women and girls continues to inspire their efforts.

Hajiya Jamilatu noted that Maryam Babangida’s vision for a better life for rural women remains a beacon of hope. It serves as a reminder of the transformative power of unity, education, and empowerment.

She emphasized that C-MAV, under the auspices of the Women Voices Progressive Association, is focused on strengthening women who are determined to create a brighter future.

She called for support from the government and other key stakeholders to believe in their objectives, which aim to provide opportunities for women to overcome challenges and transform their lives and communities.

Former Head of Service of Niger State, Engineer Abubakar Y. Salisu, spoke as an inspirational speaker, urging women to pursue their passions in business for inclusive growth. He encouraged C-MAV to partner with the government and leverage business initiatives to attract investors.

Mary Noel Barje, the special adviser for Women’s Affirmative Action to the Governor, commended C-MAV for uniting women vendors under one umbrella, which helps promote financial self-reliance.

She assured attendees that her office would take the necessary steps to support their initiatives.
Hajiya Ladi Shambo, the Grand Patron of the Association, expressed her gratitude to the late Maryam Babangida for fostering meaningful engagement for women in society.

She encouraged women who have not yet entered entrepreneurship to do so, as it can significantly enhance their businesses.

The seminar also featured discussions on digital marketing and business diversification, with a guest lecturer providing valuable insights that captivated the audience.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of MSME and the Corporate Affairs Commission, among others. It included the presentation of an award to the former Head of Service and a cheque to participants, along with additional goodwill messages from dignitaries.
