Niger state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, gets new state working committee members
The new executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Niger state council have been inaugurated.
They are Abu Nmodu as chairman, Urea Gana as vice chairman, Usman Mohammad chiji as secretary and Abubakar Adamu Kuta as assistant Secretary.
Others are Habiba Etsu as treasurer, Zakari Musa lambata as financial secretary and Ndanusa Abdullahi as Auditor.
Performing the inauguration ceremony, the national president of NUJ Chris Isiguzo represented by the vice president zone D Chris Asaka tasked the new executive to strive to fulfill their word through team work.
He said Niger state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has always been matured and ahead of the time in the conduct of their affairs.
He however said the National President of the union Chris Isiguzo has called on the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek justice for the families of those Journalists that died while carrying out their legitimate duties during the nationwide hunger protest.
In a goodwill message on the occasion, former minister of state forieng Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada Charged the new executive members to sustain the confidence reposed in them to continuously deliver good services to the people.
He said the media remains the confidence of the nation owing to their onerous task as watch dog of the society.
Ambassador Zubairu Dada implored Journalists to continue to work within the confines of the law as the society will not stop at looking up to them for survival.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman NUJ Niger state council on behalf of other executive members who were unanimously returned unopposed in a motion at one of the council meeting held at the IBB PEN house, Minna commended members of the union for the confidence reposed in them for the second time and promised not to betray them.
Abu Nmodu pledged a smoother working relationship as members of the union will be encouraged to explore possible areas of comparative advantage.
He said the coming of social media has increased the tendency of fake news as hence , he will strengthen collaboration with IBB university Lapai and other relevance educational institutions in the state for fact checking and to also encourage ICT for members.
High point of the occasion was the presentation of certificates to the new executives .
