The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC has disconnected electric power supply at the Minna New medium security custodial centre Tunga on the 25th June,2024.
The Prison housing high and low profile inmates including IDR has been in darkness over the last 48 hours.
All efforts by the Prison management to compel AEDC to reconnect the facility felt on deaf ears.
According to a Press statement by the Commands Public Relations Officer,CSC Rabiu Mohammed Shuibu said the unpatriotic action of the company has put the inmates in a dehumanizing condition and pausing high security risk to the facility.
It will be recalled that the Tunga correctional centre was attacked twice in the past, which led to the escape of many dangerous convicts and ATMs some of whom were yet to be recaptured.
Hence need to call on Niger State Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago and well meaning patriotic citizens in the state to intervene and prevail on AEDC to restore power supply to the facility in order to avert any unwanted situation that may disrupt the existing peace and security of the state and the nation at large.
