Expert proffer solution to ending water scarcity in Niger State

A retired staff of Niger State Water and Sanitation Board, Alh. Ibrahim Sallau has identified clearing of dams water channels as a solution towards ending water scarcity in the state.
Sallau stated this during an interview with Daily Post online penultimate week in Minna, the Niger state capital.
He said the activities of farmers and others at water channels connected to dams contributed largely to it’s blockage which leads to shortage in water supply and drying up of the dams as in the case of Bosso Dam .
He disclosed that the state was lucky to have surface water and the only challenge was harnessing this natural resources effectively. He said the Tudun Fulani Tsauni Dam if fully harnessed could bring an end to water scarcity especially in Bosso town.
He also revealed that with the coming of Zungeru Dam it will make supply of water closer as it can be channeled to feed Bosso Dam to address the challenges of inadequate supply of water during dry season.
Sallau stressed the need for the Niger state water board to revisit it’s abandoned water equipments at the Chanchaga water works for refurbishment and put into use and other water treatment plants in the state.
He emphasized the culture of proactive engagement of water board technical team in designing water infrastructures and water pipe lines reticulation.
Sallau further appeal to governor Mohammed Umar Bago to strategically position the state water board towards achieving clean drinking water as part of his administration’s green economy plan and SDGs goal 6 of ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
